Sir Chris Tickell KBE

Chris supports clients across the military, UK government and commercial sectors in identifying and engaging in new business opportunities, strategic partnerships, and improved organizational performance whilst providing a link between both sides of the Atlantic.  He draws on his deep expertise operating at the heart of the British Government, the British Army and Joint UK/US programs.

Chris served a 39-year British Army career. In his final assignment, he served as the Deputy Chief of the General Staff (VCSA equivalent) where he undertook all CEO functions for the British Army and, with the US VCSA, was the joint lead for the US/UK joint modernization programs.

As a young Royal Engineer officer, Chris spent time in Germany, Northern Ireland, Botswana and Norway. He then alternated between posts in the Ministry of Defense (MOD) and command of airborne and air assault units. His policy posts in the MOD covered capability requirement setting, training and HR. Having commanded 8 Force Engineer Brigade and after more time back in the MOD, he was promoted to Major General in 2013 to command the British Army’s Recruiting and Training Division. He joined the Army Board in 2016 and was the Army’s Director of Capability from then until Summer 2019. He was promoted to Lieutenant General and became Deputy Chief of the General Staff in August 2019. He left the Army on completion of that 3 year tour in December 2022. Chris served on operations in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.

He was appointed an MBE in 2000, OBE in 2003, CBE in 2010 and then Knighted in 2021. He was also appointed a Commander of the U.S. Legion of Merit in 2022.

Beyond The Chertoff Group, Chris is the Senior Advisor to PA Consulting, a NED for a Private Equity-backed broadband provider and on the Governing Board for Wellington College (one of the leading co-educational schools in the UK) and Chair of their linked Prep School, Eagle House. He has an MA in Military Studies from Cranfield University.
